What a highly under-rated place this is! Honestly I might have to say that this is the most beautiful coastal line I have seen in Europe so far! ❤️ so excited to go shoot more today and again for sunrise tomorrow🙏🏼 ...➿... And also, do I need to mention, that Portugal has some blue ass water? 💦 the combination of the earthy rock faces and these turquoise and blue waters is so aesthetically pleasing and incredible to work with 🤤 Highly advise everyone to visit here! The Fort of São João Baptista, located off the western coast of Portugal on the Berlenga island, belonged to a group of defensive military structures meant to protect the region. It was constructed in 1651 on the orders of Dom João IV from the remains of a pre-existing monastery. Hieronymite monks chose the island in the early 16th century, as it was well situated to provide aid for seafearing people, and also had a good isolation so that they could live in austerity through solitude, silence and assiduous prayer. But the monks them became victims of frequent attacks by Algerian, Moroccan, English, and French pirates and privateers. Further, violent weather often cut-off communication from the mainland, which was especially distressing during pirate incursions, as result of which the Monastery was abandoned (short summary from Wikipedia) . Afterwards the fort was used as s military defence structure from the 17th century to beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays the São João Baptista Fort works as a hostel during summer season. The Benagil caves! | We kayaked all the way from Carvoeiro to Benagil - approx 3km on the Algarve coastline 🚣‍♀️ 😀☀️ Not gonna lie, I was pretty scared and got really tired 3/4th of the way there.
